In a major boost, Lucknow Super Giants will get to avail of Mitchell Marsh's service in IPL 2025. Marsh, who was ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025, is set to be available as a batter only as per an ESPN Cricinfo report.
An official statement from Cricket Australia described Marsh's injury as a "lower back pain and dysfunction" and he only played a single Big Bash League game after the India vs Australia Test series. But his back problem proved to be a major hindrance and he wasn't a part of Australia's Champions Trophy squad.
Marsh consulted a back specialist in February and he subsequently returned to batting recently. He has been cleared for IPL 2025 but LSG cannot use him as a bowler, which might force the thinktank to alternate their plans. Lucknow are poised to open their IPL 2025 campaign against Delhi Capitals on March 24. Rishabh Pant has been declared as the captain this season and the former DC skipper will have the onus to lead his team towards glory this time around.
Marsh was bought for a whopping INR 3.4 crore and is expected to play a pivotal part in the upcoming season. Marsh will have the assistance of LSG coach Justin Langer who was also with him at Perth Scorchers and Western Australia. Marsh has had his persistent injury issues during his three-year stint with Delhi Capitals and he was not retained by them. The Australian T20 captain is regarded as one of the finest all-rounders in the shortest format and is very well versed with the difficulties and complications of the cash-rich league.
A number of Aussies with the likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood will also be seen in IPL 2025. All the three frontline bowlers missed the Champions Trophy 2025 due to various injury issues and are expected to be fit in time when the tournament starts on March 22.
