What a game it turned out to be at the Uppal, Hyderabad. One thought and punted on the home side to get past 300, but what happened was the opposite. Lucknow won the game and with four overs to spare. The Rishabh Pant-led side gunned down the 190-run chase in merely 16.1 overs and by five wickets to register their first win of the season after succumbing to a heartbreaking loss against Delhi Capitals. If it was old warhorse Shardul Thakur with the ball for Lucknow, then it was Nicholas Pooran with the bat. So, what were the talking points of the match.
Shardul Thakur went unsold at the mega auction and then somehow sneaked into the Lucknow side, thanks to injuries to other players. And now, he is the Purple cap holder after picking up four wickets for 34 in his quota of four overs. Not just that, he picked up the two crucial wickets of Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan to never allow the hosts to break free. Thakur not only came up with the heroics with the ball but also set social media on fire.
Thanks to their aggressive batting last season and in their opening game this season, the expectation was that they would become the first team ever in IPL history to get to 300. This was expected because of Lucknow's inexperienced bowling line-up they were up against. But to their surprise, old warhorse Shardul propped up out of the syllabus and sure they did not have questions for him. 190 never looked par,
and Lucknow showed that and how.
Another day, another blitz! It has become a very good habit Nicholas Pooran has, and with time, it is getting better. The veteran Windies cricketer smashed a breathtaking 26-ball 70 to take Hyderabad completely out of the game. His knock was laced with six sixes and six fours. It was a night that truly belonged to Pooran.
Before the game started, Lucknow hadn't won a single game as they lost against Delhi and were reeling outside the top four - in the sixth spot. But after this handsome win, they have zoomed to the second spot in the points table. At the moment, RCB are leading the points table following their win over Kolkata.
