Punjab Kings will be hoping for a turnaround in IPL 2025 under the tutelage of Ricky Ponting. The great Australian will be at the helm of the franchise for the first time and he will have a mountain to climb.
The Kings have been very poor in the cash-rich league and Shreyas Iyer will have the responsibility to guide his side to their first-ever IPL trophy since its inception. Punjab have completely overhauled their squad at the IPL 2025 auction as they retained just two players Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh for this season.
They splashed the cash to bring in the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal and Azmatullah Omarzai while Arshdeep Singh, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis returned to the PBKS fold. As the IPL 2025 is set to kick off Ponting seems to have issued a warning to all the other IPL teams. The former Australian captain insisted they will create the greatest-ever Punjab Kings team in the history of IPL.

As quoted by a Punjab Kings press release, he said, “The overall vision for this team is to win the IPL. I told the guys on the very first day when I joined the camp in Dharamshala that we were going to create and become the greatest Punjab Kings team that's played.
“That's the journey that we're on and that doesn't happen overnight. You've got to create that."
The Punjab Kings head coach pointed out Priyansh Arya and Suryansh Shedge as the players to watch out for in this edition.
“Priyansh Arya, I think is a very special potential opening batsman for us going forward in the tournament. Depending on which way we go with our overseas make-up, he's very exciting. Suryansh Shedge is also someone who has been very impressive in our training so far."
Punjab Kings are one of three IPL teams which are yet to lay their hand on the IPL trophy. Optimism will be high following the arrival of Ponting who will also have the assistance of IPL-winning captain Iyer. They will open their IPL 2025 campaign against Gujarat Titans on March 25.
