Indian Premier League: The rain threat looms large on the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 opening fixture between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on March 22 at Eden Gardens. In the previous season of the IPL 2024, the Kolkata-based franchise sealed the title after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets.
On the eve of the IPL 2025 season opener, covers stayed on the field due to rain. Both KKR and RCB's practice was cut short after rain played a spoilsport. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) Kolkata also given an orange alert in the nearby districts of Kolkata, which may disrupt the upcoming KKR vs RCB clash.

At 4 PM, it will be partly sunny in Kolkata with just 20 percent of rainfall. There are likely to be intermittent clouds at 5 PM, just two hours before the game. At around 6 and 7 PM, it will be cloudy, but there will be only a 19 percent chance of drizzle. For the rest of the evening, it will be cloudy in the ‘City of Joy’ but there will be only 7 percent chance of rain, which is a piece of good news for the fans.

This season both the franchises have made few changes in the squad during the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Shreyas Iyer, who led KKR to their third IPL title in 2024, left the Knights. In IPL 2025, Ajinkya Rahane will be leading the Kolkata-based franchise. On the other hand, Faf du Plessis, former RCB captain has left the franchise. In the upcoming edition, Rajat Patidar will lead the Royal Challengers.
