Mumbai Indians are now the two-time WPL champions after they rattled Delhi Capitals and defeated them by 8 runs to lift the Women's Premier League title at the Brabourne Stadium. DC did not back down from putting up a performance and delivered an absolute nail-biting finish to the competition. This is DC's third time in the summit clash, but Mumbai played like champs to finish the game as the winners.
Delhi Capitals' batters looked in all kinds of trouble after the MI bowling arsenal caused a lot of problems for them. DC's wickets fell like dominoes at one stage as they lost four wickets in just ten overs. Skipper Meg Lanning tried to give the big opening, but Nat Sciver-Brunt bowled her out at a crucial stage. Shafali Varma was also trapped in an lbw by Shabnim Ismail, and DC failed to gain any momentum from there.
In the middle-order, DC's Jemimah Rodrigues tried to bring in some stability in the side and scored 30 off 44, with four boundaries to elevate DC. But Amelia Kerr took her out with ease. Marizanne Kapp emerged as the final hope for the team as she struck some big shots to bring the stability back. Kapp diverted the pressure with her fierce batting at one point, and Niki Prasad helped in proper strike rotation to keep Marizanne on strike. But MI's Nat Sciver-Brunt was the absolute MVP in the competition as she scalped two consecutive wickets to rattle DC once again. Niki Prasad's unbelievable performance kept DC's hopes alive till the final over.
Mumbai Indians' skipper Harmanpreet Kaur gave her side a much-needed push in the final after she scored a blitzing 44-ball 66 against the Delhi Capitals at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium. MI started slow after DC delivered a spectacular performance in the powerplay. The Harmanpreet-led side lost seven wickets, with Marizanne Kapp scalping two in four overs, while Charani also picked up two dismissals to rattle the Mumbai batting attack. Mumbai were gasping for breath on 22/2 after just seven overs. Jess Jonassen also took two wickets during her four-over spell to add some spice to the competition.
That is when Harmanpreet Kaur came in clutch, as she went big with her shots and elevated MI's score. She delivered her best for the big day and powered the team to reach 149 at the end of their innings. Harman and Nat Sciver-Brunt forged a clinical partnership, with the duo adding 89 runs in just over ten overs. MI went big in the final overs and aimed to go past 150, but they had to settle at 149.
