The Hundred: Pakistan cricket is in shambles and their early exit from the Champions Trophy 2025 did not help matters. But why has The Hundred not signed up any Pakistan cricketer? Is IPL one of the reason or something else? For the unversed, five women cricketers had registered for the draft, while 45 men cricketers also did the same.
So, why was no one signed up? While one can say that the five women cricketers were not among the best, what about the men? Is privatisation of The Hundred a reason behind no Pakistan cricketers signed?
It is no secret that the IPL does not allow the participation of Pakistan cricketers in the wake of the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Earlier, Pakistani cricketers used to be a part of the IPL, but things changed after 2008. Has that impacted their participation in other foreign leagues as well?
Could very well be the case. As most of these franchises are bought by IPL owners, hence Pakistanis do not get picked. But despite that, former Pakistan legends like Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis commentate.
And then there is IPL investment in The Hundred as well.
In the past, you had Pakistani participation in The Hundred, but not in 2025. Despite worrying signs for Pakistan, the reason why no cricketer from their country was picked is because of the international calendar.
Pakistan's international calendar is clashing with The Hundred and that is the more logical reason why cricketers from the Men in Green were not picked.
Currently, the Pakistan national cricket team is in New Zealand for a full-fledged tour. The opening game of the tour would be played on March 16.
