'He's trying to push the boundary': India coach opens up on Sanju Samson and his poor form
Sanju Samson failed to put on big scores in the first two T20Is against Bangladesh. He was given a chance to open the batting with Abhishek Sharma.
India's assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, has shed light on Sanju Samson 's recent struggles with form in the T20I series against Bangladesh . According to Ryan ten Doeschate, Samson's intent to "push the boundary" and play aggressively has led to his underwhelming performances in the first two matches.

Ryan ten Doeschate emphasized the team's focus on experimenting and finding the right balance, highlighting the importance of players who can fill multiple roles. He cited Riyan Parag and Nitish Kumar Reddy as examples of players who can adapt to different positions in the batting order.
The coach stressed that the team is trying to "push the limits" of what they can achieve, giving players the freedom to take risks and play with a mindset of scoring and hitting every ball. However, this approach has led to Sanju Samson 's struggles, as he has been trying to play more aggressively than usual.
“There are guys who can fill multiple roles which are so important for balance depending on where we play. You look at someone like Riyan (Parag) who hasn't batted much in this series.
"We've seen someone ( Nitish Kumar Reddy) who can bat at 4-5 as well as being a finisher. So, it's trying to fit as many of those pieces together as we can in these bilateral series,” he added.
“We're trying to push the limits of what we can do as a team. We've obviously got the quality to do it, and then it's about giving the players the belief that they're in a safe space, to know that if it's not going right, it's okay,” he said.
“It's just about giving them the freedom that they can go out there and do it and they're certainly good enough to do it. So, it's just the mindset of looking to score and looking to hit every single ball in the 120 balls.”

Ryan ten Doeschate acknowledged that Samson could have easily scored a fifty in the first game in Gwalior but chose to play more explosively, which didn't pay off. The coach reiterated that the team wants players to expand their game and be prepared for crucial moments in the upcoming 18 months.
“If you look back at the first two games, Sanju, getting a quick start in the first game in Gwalior would have been easy for him to knock it around and get a fifty. But you can see he's trying to push the boundary, and the messaging has been pretty consistent with that.
“We want guys to expand their own game, we want to move cricket forward like it is going at the time, and we want to be prepared for the big crunch moments that are coming up in the next 18 months,” he detailed.
