IPL 2025: BCCI To Shift KKR vs LSG Match From Kolkata To Guwahati

IPL 2025: The IPL 2025 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants on April 6 will now be shifted to Guwahati, CAB president Snehasish Ganguly told PTI. The match was supposed to be held at Eden Gardens, KKR's home ground but due to the Ram Navami celebrations, there were concerns regarding security measures.

BCCI To Move KKR vs LSG IPL Match To Guwahati

The police already conveyed their inability to provide adequate security for the game and now it is reported that the game will not be postponed and will now be played in Guwahati. As quoted by PTI, Snehasish Ganguly said, “We have informed the BCCI to reschedule the match, but there is no scope for rescheduling the game in the city later and I'm now hearing that it's going to be shifted to Guwahati.”

The CAB president further added, “I had several rounds of talks with the Kolkata Police and they said they won't be able to provide enough security on that day.”

The hype surrounding this match has already been huge. LSG, owned by RPSG Group chairman Sanjiv Goenka, recently appointed Rishabh Pant as their captain while KKR handed the charge to Ajinkya Rahane following the departure of Shreyas Iyer. Last year also the match between KKR and Rajasthan Royals had to be rescheduled due to Ram Navami. 

Earlier Snehasish Ganguly had said on Tuesday, “If there's no police protection, accommodating and managing a 65,000-strong crowd becomes impossible."

KKR Tipped As One Of The IPL Contenders

KKR lifted the IPL 2024 title by defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Final. The 3-time IPL champions had a very dominating season and will seek to repeat their heroics once again this season. They have bolstered their squad with the likes of Quinton de Kock, Spencer Johnson and Venkatesh Iyer and are tipped to be one of the contenders in this campaign. KKR will open their IPL 2025 campaign against RCB on March 22 at the Eden Gardens.
