IPL 2025: Virat Kohli's Discarded RCB Teammate Named Delhi Capitals' Vice-Captain

Delhi Capitals have announced Faf du Plessis as their vice-captain for IPL 2025. The former South African skipper wasn't retained by RCB and was brought in by Delhi Capitals at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Faf replaced Virat as the captain in the 2022 season and led the IPL franchise for three seasons. Despite having the likes of KL Rahul in the squad, DC have posed their faith in the veteran South African batter. Earlier Delhi also announced Axar Patel as their captain for the upcoming season.

Du Plessis wasn't picked up on the opening day of the IPL 2025 mega-auction and he was later snapped on the second day for his base price of INR 2 crore. He finished the SA20 2025 as the highest run-getter for Joburg Super Kings with 286 runs in 10 innings. The 40-year-old still happens to be one of the most agile cricketers in the world and always commits himself fully on the pitch.

The Capitals uploaded a promotional video featuring the former RCB skipper. Faf was seen calling the Arun Jaitley Stadium his home. Apart from the IPL, he is a very renowned name in the T20 circuit. He also guided the Saint Lucia Kings to the CPL title last year while he has also been roped in by The Hundred's Southern Brave

Delhi also haven't named a replacement for Harry Brook who pulled out of IPL 2025. Delhi have amassed a quite competitive IPL squad and it remains to be seen if they manage to break their IPL title deadlock.
