Indian Premier League: The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League ( IPL ) is all set to kick off on March 22 with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ready to lock horns in the opening fixture at the iconic Eden Gardens in the 'City of Joy'. However, the opening fixture is still unexpected to kickstart on an extravagant note as rain is likely to play a spoilsport in the KKR vs RCB clash in the 18th season of the T20 tournament.
According to Accuweather, Kolkata will have a cloudy morning with persistent rain, then bright periods in the afternoon on March 22. There's a 90 per cent probability of precipitation and an 18 per cent chance of thunderstorms on the day of the IPL 2025 opening ceremony. As per the weather forecast, 79 per cent of the sky will be covered by clouds while the wind will be at 9 km/hr speed from the south direction. The maximum temperature will hover around 27 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature will be around 23 degrees on Saturday.
In the opening ceremony, top celebrities like Karan Aujla, Disha Patani , and Shreya Ghosal will feature. But with rain threat looming large it remains to be seen how things pan out. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata, an orange alert has been issued for some parts of West Bengal with a forecast of 'thunderstorms with lightning'.
In the previous season of the cash-rich tournament, the Kolkata-based franchise clinched the title after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Final by eight wickets. It was KKR's third IPL title. Meanwhile, RCB ended their IPL 2024 voyage in the play-off after they suffered a four-wicket defeat against Rajasthan Royals . Both KKR and RCB are heading into the IPL 2025 with a new leader. 31-year-old Rajat Patidar will be captaining the Royal Challengers. On the other hand, Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane will be leading the Knights this campaign.
