Indian Premier League: Just days before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, former Indian wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni set the internet on fire as the 43-year-old's video of smashing his trademark ‘helicopter shot’ against Matheesha Pathirana during Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) practice session. The Chennai-based franchise will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against Mumbai Indians on March 23 in front of their home fans. In the upcoming season, Ruturaj Gaikwad will be leading CSK.
In a viral video of CSK's practice session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Dhoni was seen batting against Sri Lankan pacer Pathirana. The former CSK captain went berserk during the session and slammed his iconic helicopter shot. All the fans will be hoping to see Dhoni at his best form in the upcoming season.
Dhoni played 264 matches in IPL, scoring 5243 runs at a strike rate of 137.54 and an average of 39.13. His highest score in the tournament is 84*. The 43-year-old has been a part of the Chennai-based franchise from the beginning of the tournament, and only in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. the wicketkeeper-batter played for Rising Pune Supergiant. In the previous season of the T20 tournament, Dhoni appeared in 14 matches and scored just 161 runs at a strike rate of 220.55. He slammed 14 fours and 13 sixes in IPL 2024. The 17th season of the tournament was not the best for the former Indian cricketer.

The 2024 season has not been great for CSK. It was Ruturaj Gaikwad's maiden season as the captain of the Chennai-based franchise. CSK ended their run in IPL 2024 in the fifth place in the standings with 14 points and failed to qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament.
The 2025 edition of the IPL will begin on March 22, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) locking horns in the opening fixture at the iconic Eden Gardens.
