Chennai Super Kings have secured a huge win on IPL 2025's first El Clasico at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The Ruturaj-Gaikwad-led side was dominant from the start and displayed pure grit with the bat and the ball. CSK's bowling attack allowed the batters to play with ease, and MI's struggles were evident from the season's commencement. CSK secured a 4-wicket win against MI.
Opener Rachin Ravindra brought out runs with his bat and scored a half-century to give Chennai Super Kings an ideal start in the game. While Impact Player Rahul Tripathi could not make a big splash, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad set the tone with a 26-ball 53. Middle-over batters Shivam Dube, Sam Curran and Deepak Hooda could not score much which sparked concern, but Ravindra Jadeja held on alongside Rachin to steer the team towards a win. MS Dhoni also made a cameo in the middle, and the crowd went insane. In the end, Rachjin struck the match-winning six to finish the game.
MI's bowling line-up did not make big of a splash as Deepak Chahar and Will Jacks managed to scalp out a wicket each, while a miscommunication led to Ravindra Jadeja's run-out in the play. However, one of their biggest positives was Vignesh Puthur, who scalped three crucial wickets in the game and almost took the game out of CSK's hands.
The Chennai Super Kings were off to a flying start with the ball after Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a four-ball duck. The remaining top order also did not impress as Rickleton was bowled out at 13 while Will Jacks was also dismissed at 11 runs. The highlight of the night was MS Dhoni's trademark speed being on display as he stumped out skipper Suryakumar Yadav at 0.12 seconds in IPL 2025's first El-Clasico. SKY was in the process of forging a partnership with Tilak Varma as they brought out some huge shots during the game, but Super Kings humbled them down. Except for Tilak, no other batter went past the 30-run mark MI were restricted for a sub-par score of 155/9.
Chennai's bowling attack featured an intricate display by Noor Ahmad, who picked up a four-fer while Khaleel Ahmed scalped three wickets to uproot MI's momentum. R Ashwin picked up a wicket on his homecoming match, and Nathan Ellis also scalped a wicket in the first innings.
