Rishabh Pant last played competitive cricket back in December 2022. It was a Test match against Bangladesh in Mirpur. After the accident, Pant was rushed to the nearest hospital with multiple wounds all over his body. He was later shifted to Mumbai for further treatment. Currently, the 25-year-old is undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Rishabh Pant was handed the captaincy of Delhi Capitals in 2021 after regular skipper Shreyas Iyer got injured. Pant was supposed to captain only for the 2021 season of the IPL and then Iyer was expected to take over. However, Delhi Capitals management later decided they wanted to keep Pant as permanent captain, resulting in Iyer leaving the franchise.
