The IPL 2025 season opener clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru has run into a huge problem. Rain threat remains at large in the Kolkata region, and it has affected both teams' practice hours before the season opener clash at Eden Gardens. The IPL 2025 season is expected to have a glittering start, with the defending champions playing at home against RCB. However, the weather threat persists as it has affected both sides' training time.
The Kolkata region saw an unexpected shift in weather conditions after cloudy weather and rainfall took over the region. The Eden Gardens, where the IPL 2025 season opener clash would take place, was also affected by the rain showers. KKR & RCB's practice began at 05:00 PM IST. But rain showers showed up an hour later, leading to the ground staff instantly springing into action and covering the entire pitch with ground covers. As per reports, one of KKR's intra-squad matches was also affected by rain, leading to the game being washed out after an inning.
The weather is expected to remain like this until the weekend, with the weather department issuing warnings regarding rainy conditions which would also have strong winds and thunderstorms.
"Thundersqualls with gusty winds, lightning, hailstorms, and light to moderate rainfall are likely in Jhargram, Purba and Paschim Midnapore, Bankura, Purulia, Purba Bardhaman, Hooghly, and Howrah on Friday," the India Meteorological Department's New Alipore office said, as quoted by PTI.
Additionally, an orange alert for Friday and Saturday has also been issued, which could significantly impact the plans.

The IPL 2025 season opener clash would be featuring a glittering opening ceremony at the Eden Gardens, with superstars like actress Disha Patanias well as singers Shreyas Ghoshal & Karan Aujla set to light up the iconic stadium with their performances. The showcase is planned to take place at 06:00 PM IST. However, the IMD's orange alert may cause a huge problem over the BCCI's plans. It could also impact the match's beginning, and there are chances of the match being abandoned if the cut-off time is exceeded.
It is yet to be seen how the weather in the West Bengal region pans out and whether it will affect the IPL 2025 season opener.
