Zaheer Khan, the former India cricketer and current LSG mentor, had a full circle moment when a famous moment was recreated, which happened two decades ago. The moment happened when he arrived to join the Lucknow Super Giants' camp for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. The moment was shared by the LSG franchise over their social media platforms, and fans were quick to recognize the fangirl.
To give some context, let's take a trip back to the year 2005 when Team India was facing Pakistan in a fierce red-ball encounter. Cameras panned towards the stands, where a female fan with face paint was seen on TV. She stole the spotlight with the placard which had 'Zaheer I Love You' written on it, which displayed her admiration for the India star. Zaheer, who was in the dressing room, acknowledged the fans' affection while his teammates teased him. The fan also gave out a flying kiss to Zaheer, and he responded the same way she did — with a flying kiss. She was shying away and hiding her face with the placard, and the moment became memorable among the cricket fans.
The Lucknow Super Giants re-created the memorable instance upon Zaheer Khan's arrival in LSG. In a video shared by the IPL franchise, a fan girl held a similar 'Zaheer I Love You' placard, and she was seen shying as the former cricketer made his entry. Zaheer noticed the person and also gave out a huge grin. The fans on social media loved the recreation of the timeless moment.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 season, Zaheer Khan was roped in by the Lucknow Super Giants. The former cricketer's role would be as a mentor to the side. He replaced Gautam Gambhir, who had left the franchise after the IPL 2023 to join the IPL 2024 champions, the Kolkata Knight Riders. Zaheer's stint in LSG will mark his return as a coach in the IPL after two years. He was a part of the Mumbai Indians between 2018 and 2022 as the franchise's director of cricket.
Apart from the mentorship role, Zaheer Khan is also expected to function as the side's bowling coach after Morné Morkel left the franchise to join the Indian National Cricket Team. Zaheer's inclusion will be key to the team's pace bowling unit, and his presence could help the LSG push towards their maiden title win in the 2025 season.
