'It brought a tear...'-David Warner emotionally hails Usman Khawaja ahead of his final Test

David Warner gets emotional discussing the final Test and his close bond with his Australian teammate and childhood friend, calling it a fairytale ending.

Australia and Pakistan's third Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on January 3–7 might be an interesting contest. Australia is up in the series 2-0, thus while Australia is aiming for a clean sweep, Pakistan will need to win this game to regain some of their lost respect. After winning the last two games convincingly, Australia will be pumped and will be looking to continue their winning ways. The series' emotional ending will premiere in Australia. Following the SCG Test, David Warner will not be participating in any further Test cricket matches. He recently announced that he will be putting up his boots in the ODI format also for Australia following his victory in the ICC ODI World Cup final.

David Warner breaks down in tears when discussing‌ Usman Khawaja

Australian opener David Warner passionately reminisced on his brilliant career ahead of his his final Test match in Sydney, underlining his close friendship with boyhood buddy and fellow opener Usman Khawaja. Warner, a prominent presence across all formats of cricket, became noticeably upset at his retirement news conference as he spoke about his long-standing friendship with Khawaja.

The two cricketers, who have been buddies since their junior days, have had a long-standing international alliance. Khawaja and Warner batted together in 64 Test innings, scoring a total of 2771 runs at an excellent average of 44.69.

Warner's emotions during the press conference emphasised the emotional significance of the Sydney Test match, which marked the end of their professional cricketing relationship. The poignant moment struck a chord with fans and teammates alike, recognising Warner and Khawaja's profound friendship that stretched beyond the bounds of the cricket pitch. David Warner said:

“I was saying to Uzzie this morning when we were out in the middle (at training), with his debut Test I was actually sitting up in one of the boxes up there and it was awesome to see,” 

“It’s a fairytale ending. I don’t know too many cricketers who have gone through junior cricket with each other and played the highest level for a long period of time,"

Warner made a huge statement regarding Khwaja’s return 

Usman Khawaja was dropped from the Test team under Justin Langer's tenure, but he made a stunning comeback during the 2021/22 Ashes series. At the SCG, Khawaja batted in the middle order and scored two hundreds in a spectacular comeback. Since then, he has consistently been Australia's leading Test run-scorer.

David Warner expressed enormous pleasure in Khawaja's persistence and achievement during his return. The opener praised Khawaja's tenacity and performance, emphasising the tremendous effect he has had in the Test arena since rejoining the team. Warner added: 

“Just to see him come back the way he has the last two years has been absolutely amazing. I know his family are really, really proud of him. I’m really, really proud of him as a mate. It brought a tear to my eye when he scored that hundred when he came back (two years’ ago in the Ashes)," 

“When you’re childhood friends dreaming big and you get to go out here at the SCG, it’s fitting,”
