Joe Root breaks Alastair Cook's record

Joe Root began the day with a focused mindset, needing just 39 runs to eclipse Alastair Cook's record of 12,472 runs. With his trademark elegance, he struck a delightful on-drive that raced to the boundary, securing his place in history. This accomplishment is a testament to Root's consistency and dedication to the sport.

Interestingly, Joe Root achieved this feat in 147 Tests and 268 innings, a notable contrast to Alastair Cook's 161 Tests and 291 innings. As he continues to climb the ranks, Root finds himself in esteemed company, with only Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, and Rahul Dravid ahead of him in the all-time Test list.

This achievement is not the first time Root has surpassed Cook; earlier in August, he broke Cook's record for most Test centuries by an England player, securing his 33rd and 34th Test hundreds during the Lord's Test against Sri Lanka.
