The New Zealand cricket team also known as the 'Blackcaps' is one of the biggest nemesis for the Indian cricket team in the ICC events. The Kiwis defeated India in the 2019 ODI World Cup semifinals and broke Virat Kohli's dream to win an ICC tournament as a captain. However, the Kane Williamson-led side lost to England in one of the most unluckiest ways during the CWC 2019 finals.

Despite playing so well in the match, the Kiwis were handed a defeat on the basis of the boundary count, after the match and the super over ended in a tie, The Kiwis also qualified for the 2021 T20 World Cup finals but in the end, lost to Australia. Kane Williamson and Co, will once again take the field in the Cricket World Cup 2023 and play the opening match against England. Though is the Kiwi team ready to win its maiden ODI World Cup, let's find out.

New Zealand's 'Strengths' in ODI World Cup 2023

Consistent performance in ICC events: The New Zealand cricket team has been the most consistent team in the past few ICC events. The Kane Williamson-led side qualified for the finals of the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cup and also played the T20 World Cup 2021 final against Australia. The team is also the inaugural winner of the ICC World Test Championship that was played in the year 2021.

Stable squad: The New Zealand cricket team has a lot of match winners like skipper Kane Williamson, Trent Boult and Tim Southee in their squad, who can help the team win their maiden ODI World Cup. Other than these players, the team also has batsmen like Devon Conway and Glenn Phillips, who can bat at any position and can change the result of the match in any situation. The team consists of experienced spinners like Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner, who can get a lot of help from spin-friendly wickets and help the team win matches in the tournament.

New Zealand's 'Weaknesses' in ODI World Cup 2023

Dismal ODI record in India: Despite having a very balanced squad, the New Zealand cricket team's stats in India are not so pleasing. The Kiwi team has only won 18 of the 61 ODI games played in the Indian conditions and has ended up on the losing end on 47 occasions. The Kiwi team lost to India by a scoreline of 3-0 in the three-match ODI series played earlier this year.

Challenging Indian conditions: The Indian conditions will be very challenging for New Zealand cricket as both the batsmen and bowlers have failed to leave any impact in the past few series. The Kiwi bowlers fail to take wickets on flat Indian wickets whereas, the batters struggle to score runs against Indian spinners. The Kiwi team management will want to address the issue ahead of their first CWC 2023 match.

Constant failures in ICC finals: The Kiwi team lost to Australia and England in the finals of the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cup. The Kane Williamson-led side also lost against the Aussies in the T20 World Cup 2021 finals. The team is the prime contender to win the tournament and will look forward to countering the weakness.

New Zealand's 'Opportunities' in ODI World Cup 2023

Opportunity for senior players to end their career on a winning note: New Zealand cricket team players like Kane Williamson, Tim Southee and Trent Boult will probably play the last ODI World Cup of their careers. The players will want to end their career on a winning note and guide the team to their maiden ODI World Cup win.

New Zealand's 'Threats' in ODI World Cup 2023

Kane Williamson's fitness: New Zealand cricket team skipper Kane Williamson will miss the opener of the ODI World Cup 2023 against England on October 5 as the latter is recovering from his knee surgery. Williamson sustained an ACL injury during the IPL 2023 and was out of international cricket for almost five months. Williamson is one of the important pillars of the Kiwi team and if he is not fit, the batter can prove to be a big weakness for the team.

Prediction for New Zealand in ODI World Cup 2023

The Kane Wiliamson-led New Zealand cricket team has all the qualities to win the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023. However, it is important that how will the Kiwis perform in the knockouts as the team has lost two ICC finals in the last five years. The team can be considered the favourites to win the tournament and will want to give a fairytale end to Kane Williamson's career.
