Pakistan KNOCKED OUT or Can Still Qualify For Champions Trophy 2025 Semi-Final Despite Loss vs India - Scenarios EXPLAINED

The Pakistan cricket team have now lost two on the trot jeaopardising their chances of making the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final. The Mohammed Rizwan-led side lost their opener against New Zealand by 60 runs and then they were beaten by India by six wickets on Sunday. With a game still to go against Bangladesh, Pakistan's chances of making the semi-final are bleak. So, are they already knocked out or can they still make it through? Surely, things are not in their control anymore after the two losses.

Can Pakistan Still Qualify? 

For Pakistan to qualify, they would now have to hope that New Zealand lose their remaining matches against Bangladesh and then against India. Given the quality New Zealand have, that is unlikely to happen. Also, they are a team in-form. Hypothetically even id NZ lose both their remaining matches, Pakistan would have to beat Bangladesh by a big margin. If all of these happen, then New Zealand, Bangladesh and Pakistan would all be at two points from three games. Then, it will boil down to the Net Run Rate (NRR). 

For India, it was Virat Kohli who came up with his best on the big day. Kohli's brilliant unbeaten century was good enough to take India over the line.

‘Amazed at the hardwork he puts in’ - Rizwan on Kohli

“I am amazed at the hardwork he puts in. The whole world was saying he was out of form but coming into such a big game, he scored runs effortlessly. His fitness and work ethic is indeed praiseworthy. We tried our best to get him out but we could not,” Rizwan said at the post-match presentation. 

Pakistan would realise they have themselves to blame. They were timid in their approach in both the games. The batters were not ready to take risks and the bowlers did not come up with the goods as well.
