England's poor performance at ICC events continued to haunt them. The Three Lions were knocked out of the Champions Trophy following an eight-run defeat against Afghanistan on February 26.
Afghanistan Pulled Off Massive Upset In Champions Trophy
Batting first, Afghanistan piled on a massive 325 runs on the board courtesy of Ibrahim Zadran's sensational knock of 177. Despite Joe Root's 17th ODI century, Afghanistan snatched a valuable victory from England's grasp keeping their hopes alive for a knockout berth.
The loss triggered a number of conversations, including Adil Rashid's role in the loss. The spinner arrived at the scene when the Three Lions required 17 runs in just 13 balls. But he could only manage 5 runs in the seven balls before getting dismissed in the final ball.

Wasim Akram Questioned Adil Rashid's Batting Ability
Former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram criticised Rashid, raising questions on his batting ability. On Ten Sports show 'Dressing Room', he said, "I have a question for all of you. How does Adil Rashid have 11 hundreds?"
Aktram sounded curious as he mentioned the leg spinner's FC hundreds in the conversation. "Whenever I come in the commentary box a stat guy keep repeating that he's got 11 hundreds. I'm sorry Adil, but you didn't look like a guy with 11 hundreds."

Sunil Gavaskar, who is also a part of the show, sent a message to the England team. The legendary Indian cricketer advised the Three Lions to send Rashid up in the batting order.
"But if he's batting at No.9, then how can he get a hundred? He should be opening the batting. This message should be sent to the England team management that he has got 11 hundreds, he should be opening the batting."
This happens to be Afghanistan's second win over England at ICC events. The Afghans got the better of the Three Lions in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup defeating them by 69 runs. England will now take on South Africa in a dead rubber while the Afghans will face off the Aussies in a must-win clash on February 28.
