ICC Champions Trophy 2025: India held him back for the first two games and then unleashed him in the third and he delivered. Varun Chakravarthy picked up five wickets against New Zealand in India's final group-stage game. Now, he seems to be indispensable to the cause, but New Zealand do not seem to be worried about him.

The Blackcaps are more worried about the Ravindra Jadeja threat and hence are prepping for left-arm spin. A NZ net bowler recently revealed what he was asked to do in the nets.

New Zealand's net bowler Shashwat Tiwari, while speaking to ANI, said that while they did well to bowl from that point, the batters soon realised that the ball was coming too quickly and hence they asked him to bowl from 22 yards.

‘Was asked to bowl from 22 yards’

“Today, I fortunately got to bowl. Well, at one point of time, they asked me to bowl from 18 yards just to prepare for Ravindra Jadeja. It is because of the kind of pace he has; they were expecting that kind of speed. We bowled from that point and we did nicely. But when they realised the ball was coming too quickly, I was asked to bowl from 22 yards,” net bowler Shashwat Tiwari told ANI.

“They are preparing for left-armers. I won’t say they are struggling. Of course, our Indian team has top-class spinners, but I don’t think they will be able to cope with them,” the net bowler added.

India vs New Zealand H2H

Team India have been extremely dominant in terms of head-to-head record against the Blackcaps. In 119 ODI matches played, the Men in Blue have won 61 matches, while the Blackcaps have secured 50 wins.

A solitary match had ended up in a tie, while seven ODI matches ended up with no results. The Indian side certainly have the edge as they head into the summit clash in Dubai.
