It was a dismal day at the office for Team India as the entire team bundled out at an embarrassing total of 46 on Day 2 of the India vs New Zealand 1st Test on Thursday in Bengaluru. Not one, not two, not even three, but five Indian batters went on a duck on an outright forgettable day for Rohit Sharma and his men.

Rohit Sharma 's Cheeky Reply To A Reporter About KL Rahul

As India opted to bat first, the batting prowess was expected to handle the proceedings. From the opening slot to late at number seven, all the batters have a proven record of delivering for India, but it just wasn't the day for the batters, and considering how the New Zealand team came out and batted, it wasn't the day for the Indian bowlers either. No batter could stick in the middle and the echoes of disappointment struck hometown boy KL Rahul .

Barring some runs in the second Test against Bangladesh , KL Rahul has endured a tough season and the string of flop shows has taken aboard the first innings against New Zealand as well. Gracing the middle of the field at No.6, when the team was reeling at 31/4, Rahul was expected to carry out a rescue act, but in turn he departed on a duck, leaving the naysayers to have a say.

KL Rahul 's name was brought forward in the post-stumps presser, where Rohit Sharma was asked if the batsman could have been promoted up the order, as he is the "hometown boy". This called for a cheeky reply from the skipper, who in his distinct manner said "Local boy hai toh kya teen pe jaane de? (What if he is the hometown boy, shall we send him at No.3)".

As the backs are against the wall, Team India would expect the bowlers to take the onus and restrict the Kiwis to as low a score as possible on Day 3. But if New Zealand succeed in putting a monumental total on the board then it could become a herculean task for Team India to evade trailing in the series. New Zealand ended Day 1 at 180/3, having taken a lead of 134.
