ICC Champions Trophy 2025: India captain Rohit Sharma had the spotlight on him when he walked out for the toss on Tuesday for the semi-final against Australia in Dubai. The luck once again did not go Rohit's way as he lost his 14 consecutive toss in ODIs.
Most consecutive tosses lost by a captain in ODIs
12 - Brian Lara (West Indies, October 1998 to May 1999)
11 - Peter Borren (Netherlands, March 2011 to August 2013)
11*- Rohit Sharma (India, November 2023 to March 2025)
But what happened at the toss was hilarious. When former India cricketer Ravi Shastri asked Rohit for the playing XI, the captain seemed to make a goof-up where he said that the side would play ‘four spinners and two spinners’. What he actually meant was four spinners and two seamers. For the unversed, the Indian team is playing the same XI that beat New Zealand in the last group-stage match.

‘Better to lose the toss’
“When you're in two minds, it's better to lose the toss. The pitch keeps changing its nature. You have to play good cricket. We've played good cricket in all three games and that's what we'll try to do. It's going to be challenging. We are playing with the same team. We want to continue from where we left. Now that we are bowling first, we have to bowl well and restrict them to as low as possible,” Rohit said after he lost the toss.

Meanwhile, India would be bowling first after Australia opted to bat. Australia have made two changes to their XI from the previous game.
