Former Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal has undergone an angioplasty procedure after suffering a heart attack while competing in a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match-up in Kolkata. Iqbal was in action during the match between the Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club and was fielding in the first innings when he suffered discomfort in his chest. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.

Tamim Iqbal Undergoes Angioplasty, Under Doctor's Close Observation

The doctors who have been treating former Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal have issued an official medical update, informing that he arrived in a critical condition and performed an angiogram as well as angioplasty to remove the blockage. Tamim remains under the watchful eyes of the doctors.

"He returned to us in a critical condition. We can call it a heart attack, and we subsequently did an angiogram and angioplasty to remove the blockage. The medical procedure has gone smoothly. He is currently under observation. The swift coordination between the medical staff at BKSP and the hospital ensured Tamim was treated quickly," the bulletin read, as quoted by PTI.

BCB Officials Rush To Visit Tamim Iqbal In Hospital

The Bangladesh Cricket Board rushed to visit Tamim Iqbal after it was revealed that the former Bangladesh skipper suffered a heart attack. The BCB had a scheduled board meeting in the afternoon, but it had to be postponed after learning about the incident. President Faruque Ahmed is in the hospital alongside other members and they are checking up on Tamim.

Tamim Iqbal has played for Bangladesh cricket and has been a part of 70 Test matches, 243 ODIs and 78 T20Is. He last featured for the national side in 2023 and eventually called time in his career for the second time in January 2024. The veteran had initially decided to retire in July 2023, but Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina intervened, which led to his decision's reversal. He had also taken up commentary duties during the Bangladesh Tour of India.
