'Kohli Took Responsibility': Rohit Reveals Virat Stood Up To Take The No. 3 Spot Amid Gill's Absence
Following the second day of play, Rohit Sharma disclosed that Kohli chose to take over Shubman Gill's role since he was unable to play due to neck stiffness.
The Men in Blue had difficulty batting first against the Kiwis in Bengaluru during the opening Test match between India and New Zealand. While play is still going on in Bengaluru, the hosts collapsed to a historic new low against New Zealand. The beginning of the match saw Virat Kohli showing up early in the play as he came in to bat at the number three spot. Shubman Gill was not a part of the Playing XI, and Kohli entered his spot, which left a lot of the fans surprised since it is not the spot where Kohli entered. After the play, Rohit Sharma reveals who made the call to move Virat to the number three spot.

Rohit Sharma Reveals Virat Kohli Stood Up To Take The Number Three Spot Against New Zealand
On Day 2 of the India vs New Zealand Test match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the fans were surprised to see Virat Kohli entering the field after Rohit Sharma was dismissed. After the Day 2 play, the Indian skipper revealed that it was Kohli who stepped up to take the task since Shubman Gill was unavailable for action due to neck stiffness.
"We don't want to touch KL's batting position much, he has found a place at 6 so let's give him a rope there, same with Sarfaraz, So Virat was the one who wanted to take the responsibility and that's a good sign of players taking responsibility," Rohit Sharma said at the press conference after the IND vs NZ Day 2 play.

Speaking of the match, India crashed to their lowest-ever total in a Test at home, folding in just 31.2 overs with five home batters not even managing to open their accounts. New Zealand were 180 for three in their first innings in reply to India's 46 all out on the second day of the rain-hit opening Test on Thursday.
Rishabh Pant scored 20 while opener Yashasvi Jaiswal made 13. None of the other Indian batters got a double-digit score. New Zealand, in complete contrast, batted solidly to gain a lead of 134 runs by the end of the day's play.
