IPL 2025: It was a night to forget for the Titans and now the captain the facing all the backlash. Punjab Kings beat the Gujarat franchise by 11 runs to get their campaign off to a flying start. While there are concerns coming to the fore already after the first game, former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has launched a scathing attack on Gill.

As per Sehwag, Gill was not upto the mark as the leader of the side. Sehwag cited the bowling changes to validate his accusation.

‘Gill’s captaincy wasn’t up to the mark’

“I thought that Shubman Gill’s captaincy wasn’t up to the mark, he wasn’t ready, he wasn’t proactive. When Siraj was bowling well, he brought on Arshad Khan, who I think conceded 21 runs in the powerplay and that over changed the momentum," Sehwag said while speaking on Cricbuzz.

“If Siraj is bowling well with the new ball, there is no point holding him back for the death overs and you see he also got hit in the end," Sehwag added.

‘Many positives as well’ - Gill

"I think we got our chances when we were bowling and batting. Too many runs were given away. We let ourselves down on the field as well. Those three overs in the middle when we scored 18 runs, that and the first three overs we didn't score too many runs. That costed us the game. Many positives as well," Gill said at the post-match presentation after the loss.

The Titans would play their next game against the Mumbai Indians on March 29. That Western derby is expected to be a cracker. Both sides boast of big names and both sides would be eyeing their first win of the season. The game would take place at the Narendra Modi stadium.
