India will host Bangladesh in an AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers in Shillong on March 25. This game is all set to mark the debut of Hamza Choudhury who switched his allegiance to Bangladesh recently.
India defeated Maldives 3-0 to kick start their 2025 on a winning note. Sunil Chhetri found the net on his return to the Blue Tigers fold and the Indian team will be hoping to continue their momentum when they take on Bangladesh.
The addition of Hamza has definitely bolstered Bangladesh ahead of their AFC Asian Qualifiers. The 27-year-old came through the ranks at Leicester City and has appeared in 57 matches in the Premier League for the Foxes. He is currently on loan at Sheffield United in the Championship and is expected to return to King Power Stadium once the season is over.
He also represented England at the U21 level and is all set to make his first senior appearance for Bangladesh. He even featured in the UEFA European U-21 Championship in 2019 which speaks volumes about his ability and talent. The midfielder was born to a Grenadian father and a Bangladeshi mother and returned to his country on Monday amid much fanfare.
Hamza lifted the FA Cup title in the 2021 campaign and also went on to win the Community Shield in the 202-21 season. Choudhury sounded very excited after arriving in Bangladesh. As quoted by the Daily Star he said, “It feels incredible. My heart is pumped. Amazing, amazing. A long time coming. Excited to be here.”
hamza appeared in 131 matches for Leicester City scoring two goals and laying up four more goals.
