World Cup 2019 | Jasprit Bumrah becomes second-fastest Indian to take 100 ODI wickets

Jasprit Bumrah, the strike pacer for India, became the second fastest Indian to take 100 wickets in ODI Cricket after he dismissed Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne at Headingley on Saturday in the ongoing World Cup match. Bumrah took 57 matches to achieve this feat and in the process has been consistently the number one ODI bowler according to the ICC Bowler Rankings. The previous fastest Indian to reach 100 wickets was Mohammad Shami who just took one less match and achieved the feat in 56 matches. 

Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan is the current overall holder of the record, having taken 100 wickets in 44 matches. 

Bumrah first came into the limelight playing for Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians. Under the guidance of ‘yorker king’ Lasith Malinga, Bumrah matured to become a great toe crusher.

Bumrah hasn't looked back since recording figures of 2-40 in his debut against Australia in Sydney. The 25-year-old, with his unique action and almost negligible run-up, and expertly utilises variation in pace to regularly beat defences of the world's best, as a result of which he's become the strike bowler for India in all three formats. 

Bumrah is part of the Team India squad at the ongoing Cricket World Cup where he taken 16 wickets in 8 matches. His best bowling performance this tournament came against Bangladesh when he registered figures of 4-55.

In India's final group-stage match of the match versus Sri Lanka where he took his 100th wicket for India, he also took two more wickets, ending on figures of 3-73.
