Former India captain Virat Kohli is facing a lot of criticism over his batting performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Kohli has failed to score runs in all three matches he has played thus far. Kohli has registered scores of 0, 4, and 1 against Ireland, Pakistan, and the United States in the group stage of the competition. However, all three matches that the Indian team has played so far have been held at a single venue in New York, which has turned out to be a nightmare for the batters.

Team India has now shifted their base to Florida for their one remaining group-stage game against Canada. The surface in Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill is a batting paradise and Virat Kohli is expected to come good. Meanwhile, some people have raised questions regarding Kohli's batting position in the playing XI. In the T20 World Cup 2024, Kohli has been opening the batting alongside Rohit Sharma. Many believe that Yashasvi Jaiswal deserved to get an opportunity ahead of Kohli.
Former West Indies cricketer Brian Lara, on the other hand, has a different opinion. Lara thinks that India should stick with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opening the batting because if they decide to change things now, it may affect other aspects. Brian Lara wants the Indian team management to back the combination of Rohit and Virat and he believes that the duo will come good at some point in time.
“Definitely, India had the option to play a left-right opening partnership. They went with two great players, two guys who’ve done a great job for India with the bat for their individual franchise as well in terms of the captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. I think they’ve got to stick with it as you just said if you do make changes on top, Virat Kohli has to come in the order a little bit lower and that’s going to upset things there,” said Lara on Star Sports.
“I believe that the combination India is having and India has to back the two of them. At some point in time, they’re going to come good with conditions, the batting conditions in the USA were not the very best. I don’t believe you start making changes especially if you’re winning,” he added.
