On Sunday, September 8, the BCCI announced India's 16-member squad for the upcoming home Test series against Bangladesh , set to begin on September 19. One of the most significant inclusions in the squad was that of Rishabh Pant , who is making his Test comeback after a long injury hiatus.

Just days after that series, on December 30, 2022, Pant was involved in a serious car accident while traveling from New Delhi to Roorkee to celebrate the New Year . The accident resulted in multiple injuries, requiring a lengthy recovery period and forcing the southpaw to miss out on international cricket for nearly two years.
