UEFA Nations League Quarterfinal Goes Down To The Wire As Spain Beat Netherlands On Penalties To Proceed To Semi-Finals

Spain defeated Netherlands in their UEFA Nations League quarterfinal on penalty shootout after the match ended 5-5 on aggregate.

The second leg of the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals between Spain and Netherlands turned out to be much more intense than the first as Spain defeated Netherlands 5-4 on penalties after the match ended in a 3-3 draw. The first leg between the two nations was played in Netherlands where neither of the two countries could win the game. The first leg had ended in a 2-2 draw. In the second leg of the quarterfinals, it again went down to the wire as in the end it was Spain that got the upper hand. 

Spain Beat Netherlands In Nations League Quarterfinal 

The second leg between Netherlands and Spain started with an early goal from Spain as Mikel Oyrzabal converted a penalty in the 8th minute of the game. The next goal in the game came straight in the second half from the Dutch side with Memphis Depay scoring a penalty for Netherlands to make the score 1-1.

In the 67th minute, Spain retook the lead of the match thanks to Mikel Oyrzabal who made it a brace for himself.12 minutes later, Ian Maatsen scored and brought the Netherlands back to level terms with the Spaniards. As the 30 minutes extra time was given to try and settle the game, Lamine Yamal scored in the 103rd minute to get Spain back in the lead but it did not last long once again as Xavi Simmons scored a penalty in the 109th minute. 

Spain And Netherlands Clash Goes Down To The Wire 

The playing time of 120 minutes ended 3-3 with the score line being 5-5 on aggregate leading to the teams going for a penalty shoot out. All the players from both teams continued to score until Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simón saved Donyell Malen’s penalty attempt.

This setup FC Barcelona superstar Pedri to take the final spot kick as he converted it to send Spain into the semi-finals. Spain will now face France in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League.
