Where will Claudio Echeverri play in January?
Argentina's U-17 team captain, Echeverri, has drawn notice for his great performances on the club and international circuits. Interest in the young playmaker has grown even further as a result of his outstanding performance at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia, where he scored five goals, including a hat-trick against Brazil.
Echeverri, who signed his first professional contract with River Plate in 2022, ensuring his stay until December 2024, has been watched by a number of European teams, including Chelsea, Manchester City, and Barcelona. In discussions, Manchester City has emerged as the front-runner despite early interest from other teams.
With a €25 million release clause in his contract, Echeverri is expected to sign for Manchester City after the two teams allegedly closed on a deal that would cost more than €20 million. The plan is to proceed in a manner similar to that they employed with Julian Alvarez in 2022, enabling Echeverri to continue his loan at River Plate for an extra six to twelve months.
Barcelona could try to jump in late, but Manchester City seems to be in a good position to sign Echeverri based on the way talks are going. Due to their financial limitations, Barcelona might not be able to compete for deals of this kind, and the club is expected to have a quiet January transfer window.
Barcelona, which is struggling financially, isn't anticipated to make many changes during the January transfer window. The club's recent performance issues are being addressed with an emphasis on short-term fixes, and little money will be spent during this time.
