The Chinese Grand Prix has gone from bad to worse for both Ferrari drivers as Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc along with Alpine driver Pierre Gasly have been disqualified from the Chinese Grand Prix. This means that whatever little points were coming Ferrari's way are no longer there as it turns into a nightmare pointless weekend for the Italian based outlet. The weekend had started on a high for Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton as they had gotten pole for the Sprint Race and then converted it into a win but ever since then it has been a downhill journey.
The three drivers have been disqualified from the Chinese Grand Prix following a breach in racing regulations. Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly's cars were found to be underweight during the post race check by the FIA. The minimum weight requirement for a car to pass the test is 800kgs. After fuel was drained from both cars, the weight came out to be 799kgs leading the FIA disqualifying Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly.
Lewis Hamilton on the other hand was disqualified because the rear skid block on his car was found to be under the minimum thickness that was required in the technical regulations set by the FIA. The minimum thickness required by the FIA is 9mm which Hamilton's car failed to meet.
Following the disqualification of Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly from the Chinese Grand Prix, the FIA released a statement explaining the reasons behind Hamilton's disqualification from the race.
“The plank assembly of Car 44 was measured and found to be 8.6mm (LHS), 8.6mm (car centerline) and 8.5mm (RHS). This is below the minimum thickness of 9mm specified under Article 3.5.9 of the Technical Regulations.
“During the hearing the team representative confirmed that the measurement is correct and that all required procedures were performed correctly. The team also acknowledged that there were no mitigating circumstances and that it was a genuine error by the team.
“The Stewards determine that Article 3.5.9 of the FIA Formula 1 Technical Regulations has been breached and therefore the standard penalty of a disqualification needs to be applied for such an infringement,” said the FIA in their statement regarding Lewis Hamilton's disqualification from the Chinese Grand Prix.
