Changing ideas about gender identification have caused major changes in the sporting scene recently. Athletes born men but identifying as female and vice versa have started serious discussions. This has sparked debate recently where many stand with the idea of the settings calling it an inclusive environment, while others deny with claiming that this harms the nature of the sports.

Donald Trump promises to prohibit transgender athletes from participating in women's competitive sports

During a town hall conference on Fox News Channel's "The Faulkner Focus," former US President Donald Trump just revealed his direct approach to the divisive topic of transgender athletes participating in women's sports. Trump boldly said, "You just ban it," when asked by a member of the all-female crowd how he would approach "the transgender issue in women's sports." His answer emphasised his conviction that the answer is basic yet required.

Trump went further on the dangers he believes exist, stressing, “Everybody in the room and you know that answer, we’re not going to let it happen.”

He cited several events that highlight his worries, mostly involving a San Jose State University transgender athlete. In this example, he said, transgender women competing against cisgender women highlights the possible risks.

Trump specifically mentioned an instance involving a San Diego State University female volleyball player who was hit in the face by a ball from an opponent who had changed their gender from male to female. “I saw the slam, it was a slam. I never saw a ball hit so hard, hit the girl in the head,” he said, adding that injuries in women’s sports can be severe due to the physical differences between transgender women and biological women. “But you don’t have to do the volleyball. We stop it. We stop it. We absolutely stop it. You can’t have it,” he asserted.

The prior president of the United States expressed his opinion that those born male had natural edge in women's sports based on their physical characteristics. he said, “It’s a man playing in the game. I mean, physically from a muscular, even if it was a little bit less, maybe they do all sorts of tests and drugs and everything else.” He referenced the records being set in swimming as evidence of this disparity, noting, “Look at what’s happened in swimming. Look at the records that are being broken.”

When presenter Harris Faulkner questioned Trump how he would carry out this ban—whether it would include contacting sports leagues or the Olympics —his response was plain and unambiguous: “You just ban it. The president bans it. You just don’t let it happen.”
