The stage for the auction of the world's biggest Kabaddi league is set as more than 500 Kabaddi players from across the globe are set to go under the hammer on October 9 and 10 in Mumbai. The auction for the 2023 season of the Pro Kabaddi League will be held in Mumbai. All 12 teams will have a total purse of INR 5 crore which has been increased from the last season's amount of INR 4.4 crore. The players will be divided into categories like raiders, defenders and all-rounders.

What are the player retention rules? 

Each of the 12 teams can retain players in three categories:

  • Elite Players Retained
  • Young Players Retained
  • Existing Young Players

Each team can retain a total of six players under which two can be selected from Category A and two can be selected from Category B. The teams can retain players from the Elite Players Retained category so that they ensure that other teams do not pick those players by offering a higher price in the auction.

The teams can also retain players from the Young Players Retained category, which will not be a part of the total six players that each team can retain ahead of the PKL 2023 auction

PKL 2023: Rules of auction 

The auction of the 2023 edition of the Pro Kabaddi League will witness more than 500 players that will go under the hammer in the two-day event on October 9 and 10. The players will be divided into four categories which includes: 

  • Category A
  • Category B
  • Category C
  • Category D

The four categories will be further subdivided into Raiders, Defender and All-Rounders. The base price of the Category A players will be INR 30 lakhs, Category B will be INR 20 lakhs, Category C will be INR 13 lakhs and Category D will be INR 9 lakhs.

The 500 players that will go under the hammer in the Pro Kabaddi League 2023 will include the released players from all the PKL teams and the players from the domestic level. The pool will include the top names from seasons 8 and 9 and also the players from the top six teams of the Senior Men's Kabaddi National Championships. Further, a total of 24 players will be included in the auction from the two finalist teams of the Khelo India University Games 2023. 

Key Points to Remember

  • Maximum Squad size: 18 to 25 players
  • Total Purse: INR 5 crore
  • Total Overseas Players: 2 to 4 players

What is the Final Bid Match card?

The Final Bid Match card comes into play when a team gets a chance to match the bid of players who were in the squad in the previous season. The FBM card can be used by a team once if they have retained a maximum of six players whereas they can use it twice if their total elite players retained is five. However, the number will increase to three times if the total number of elite players retained is less than five.

The Pro Kabaddi League 2023 auction can be watched on the Star Sports Network and the Disney Plus Hotstar app on October 9 and 10.
