WWE SmackDown Results: AOP returns, new matches revealed for the Royal Rumble
The show opened with Roman Reigns arriving at the venue alongside wise man Paul Heyman. It led to the opening of the show, which featured Kevin Owens and Santos Escobar
Kevin Owens vs. Santos Escobar (WWE United States Championship #1 Contender’s Tournament Finals)
Santos Escobar arrived with Humberto and Angel by his side, but the LWO (Cruz del Toro and Roaquin Wilde) neutralized them. It led to US Champion Logan Paul making an appearance and joining the announcers for the Championship Contender’s Tournament Finals. KO tried to find an early advantage, but Escobar came back strong with his skills. The opening match was a spectacle as it had some high-flying skills with some powerhouse-like moves. Owens stood tall after he hit Santos with a Stunner and made the pinfall for a three-count. Logan Paul began his trash talk, but KO took him down too.
Kevin Owens will battle against Logan Paul for the United States Championship title at the Royal Rumble.
AOP returns w/ Paul Ellering, aligns forces with Karrion Kross & Scarlett
The All-Mighty Bobby Lashley and the Street Profits came out to address the crowd and spoke about their ambitions for 2024. But they were interrupted by Karrion Kross and Scarlett. Surprisingly, the legendary Paul Ellering also showed up from behind, as AOP attacked Lashley and the Profits from behind to make a statement.
IYO SKY (c) vs. “Michin” Mia Yim (WWE Women’s Championship)
Michin showcased her top-notch skills to make her case to become a top draw in the women's division. Both female superstars jocked to gain momentum as they displayed some aerial action with top-rope manoeuvres. Michin displayed great grappling skills with moves like the Karelin lift, Dragon suplex, and more. But Iyo Sky retained the title after she gained the upper hand and delivered a moonsault to Yim making the pinfall.
British Strong Style (BUTCH & Tyler Bate) vs. Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince & Kit Wilson)
A British Strong Style reunion took place as BUTCH brought up Tyler Bate from NXT as his tag team opponent to go up against Pretty Deadly. A hard-hitting tag match turned very fascinating as the Big Strong Boy ran rampant over Wilson and Prince. While Pretty Deadly tried to get the shift on momentum, overpowering British Strong Style was difficult. Bate found the edge after he hit a double Tyler Driver ‘97 on Kit Wilson and made the pinfall for the team.
AJ Styles vs. LA Knight vs. Randy Orton (WWE Undisputed Universal Championship #1 Contender’s Match)
The three icons in Sports Entertainment fought for an opportunity to face Roman Reigns for the Undisputed Universal Championship Title at the Royal Rumble. All three superstars fought for the spot as they delivered a spectacular match overall. A lot of close pinfall attempts also took place, but referee Charles Robinson was blocked from making the three count by the performers. Styles initially stopped the referee, and Knight then pulled Robinson off the ring. But Roman Reigns and the Bloodline came out to knock all three superstars, leading to a disqualification.
The Bloodline clobbered Styles, Orton, and Knight so that there would be no championship match. But GM Nick Aldis spoiled the party after he revealed that Reigns will now feature in a fatal four-way for the Undisputed Championship title at the Royal Rumble.
