No NRC Application, No Aadhaar: CM Himanta’s Big Assam Announcement

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has introduced a new requirement for obtaining Aadhaar cards in the state. From now on, new applicants must provide their National Register of Citizens (NRC) application receipt number. This measure is part of the state's efforts to tighten controls on illegal immigration. The NRC is a registry intended to identify legal residents of Assam , and linking it to Aadhaar card applications aims to ensure that those who receive Aadhaar are verified residents.
