Bengaluru: A recent social media post by a Bengaluru woman has sparked a heated debate online after she criticised food delivery platform Swiggy for not having Kannada-speaking delivery agents.

The woman, who is a resident of Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka state, expressed her frustration with the language barrier she encountered when interacting with the delivery agents.

Her post quickly gained traction online, with many users chiming in with their own experiences and opinions on the matter. Some supported the woman's stance, arguing that it was essential for businesses operating in a region to have employees who could communicate effectively with the local population.

The Bengaluru woman named Rekha shared the viral post lashing out on Swiggy. In her viral post she wrote, ‘Bengaluru is in Karnataka or Pakistan @Swiggy? Your delivery guy is neither speaking nor understanding #kannada ,not even #English. Do you expect us to learn his state language #Hindi in our land? Stop imposing things on us and make sure your delivery persons know #Kannada.’

Others, however, countered that language should not be a barrier to service and that Swiggy should focus on providing efficient and timely deliveries regardless of the agents' linguistic abilities.

Netizens on the other hand are giving mixed reaction on Bengaluru woman's viral post. One user says, ‘In India, the language changes every 50 kilometers, but no one is as rigid about their language as people are about Tamil and Kannada. This shouldn't be the case. India is a country of diversity, with many languages, and all languages should be respected.’

Another user wrote, ‘Hindi speaking people are outsiders to this nation.. respect the native language of this nation.. every state has their own language and India is a union of states.. any state can go independent nation if they are willing to to go away from this conceptualisation.. my national language is tamil how about yours?’

As the debate continues, it has raised questions about the importance of cultural sensitivity and inclusivity in the rapidly growing metro cities like Bengaluru .
