YouTube CEO Neal Mohan’s Special Visit to India Highlights Countrys' Growing Influence
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan's India visit celebrated milestones, highlighting YouTube's growth, Indian creators' global impact, and YouTube Shorts' success.
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan recently returned to the United States after spending nearly a month in India, where he was deeply engaged in the company’s flagship Brandcast event. Upon his return, Mohan shared a photo of himself standing in front of the iconic India Gate, expressing how "special" the visit was.
“Just returned from a trip to India after a long while. It was wonderful to spend time with friends and colleagues, enjoy the amazing food, and experience firsthand how people use @YouTube every day,” Mohan shared in a post on X.
Mohan’s visit was particularly significant as it allowed him to connect with content creators who have been pivotal in shaping the platform's success in the country. “This visit was even more special because I met up with creators! We celebrated milestones and joined YouTube's Brandcast event in India, where we highlighted the global impact of Indian creators. Looking forward to sharing more from the visit…” he added.
YouTube Achieves Major Milestones in India
During his visit, Mohan also emphasized the significant achievements YouTube has made in India, particularly with YouTube Shorts. Launched globally from India, the feature has quickly become a favorite among users, achieving trillions of views in under four years.
“Indian creators are making videos inspired by local trends that go on to define global culture,” Mohan noted. “YouTube is number one in reach and watchtime in India. And we just passed a huge milestone. Shorts, which we first launched in India, now has trillions of views here.”
Mohan highlighted the robust growth of India’s creator community, which now includes 11,000 creators with over a million subscribers each. He also pointed out that YouTube is the most streamed service on Connected TVs in India, with viewership growing fourfold in the last three years.
Reflecting on the evolving landscape of content creation, Mohan remarked, “Times have changed. Now, creators are the new A-listers. Like Prajakta Koli, whose comedy journey on YouTube led to a starring role in a Netflix series and her Bollywood debut. And Diljit Dosanjh, the first Punjabi artist to perform at Coachella.”
As Mohan noted, the creators and artists have been the driving force behind YouTube’s growth in India, solidifying the platform’s position as a major player in the global entertainment industry.
