'Please Pray...': Argentine Footballer Lucas Trejo's Search For Family After Venezuela Quake Ends In Tragedy As Wife, Kids Found Dead

Caracas: Argentine footballer Lucas Trejo, who was desperately searching for his family after Venezuela earthquakes, has received the tragic news that his wife and two little children have been found dead.

74 Hours Of Search Ends In Tragedy

The 38-year-old soccer player from Venezuelan team Maritimo de la Guaira had been searching for his family for the past 74 hours. After the country was struck with twin earthquakes, Trejo's apartment collapsed and Trejo failed to locate to family.

Hoping that his family was not present at the scene of the disaster, he wrote a message on social media, desperately begging for any help to find his missing family:

“Please help. I don’t know anything about my family—please pray for them. I want to believe they weren’t there.”

However, his search ended in tragedy since the bodies of his wife and his children were found in the ruins.

Club Mourns Loss

Lucas Trejo's club confirmed the tragic news. In an official statement, it wrote, “Club Sport Maritimo La Guaira deeply mourns the loss suffered by Lucas Trejo's family; we ask for respect for his relatives and teammates. After a 74-hour search, they were found deceased.”

Another Footballer Loses Wife To Killer Quakes

Another footballer lost his wife due to the back-to-back earthquakes, that have shaken the country, leaving several homes shattered and multiple people mourning the loss of their loved ones.

Among the grieving families is footballer Héctor Bello and his 1-year-old daughter. Bello's brave wife Andrea lost her life trying to shield their toddler after their building collapsed.

18-Year-Old Footballer Killed

18-year-old Venezuelan footballer Yimvert Berroteran is also among the victims of the earthquakes. The Universidad Central forward was found dead under rubble after being trapped following the June 24 tremors, the Venezuelan Football Federation confirmed.

Berroteran was regarded as one of Venezuela’s promising young footballers. He had represented the country at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup 2025 and had also recently been part of the national setup at the under-20 level.

Universidad Central said the young forward would “always be remembered”.
