Japan hit by 5.6 magnitude aftershock, no Tsunami alert amid ongoing tremors

Japan, in the aftermath of the 7.6 earthquake, was hit by a 5.6 magnitude aftershock with no tsunami alert issued amid ongoing tremors.

Ishikawa, Japan: Another earthquake, possibly an aftershock from the previous massive earthquake, struck Noto, Ishikawa Prefecture,in Japan  around 7 AM IST on Tuesday, January 2, with a magnitude of 5.6 and a depth of 10km.

However, no tsunami warning was issued. This event follows a previous powerful magnitude 7.6 earthquake on New Year's Day in central Japan, which caused eight fatalities, mainly in Ishikawa Prefecture. Also, according to reports, Japan has experienced 21 earthquakes that were above a 4.0 magnitude.

 The earlier quake led to evacuations affecting 97,000 people, power outages for 33,000 households, injuries, and home damage. Rescue operations were undertaken by Japan's military. Although nuclear plants reported no problems, concerns remain due to Japan's susceptibility to earthquakes. The recent tremor underscores the importance of Japan staying alert and ready for such disasters.
