Three Canadian men believed they were executing a seamless escape as they filled their grocery store cart with butter worth $1000 and casually exited without making any payment. However, authorities in Guelph, Ontario were on top of the situation and apprehended the clumsy butter thieves before they could make off with their decadent loot.

Just before 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve, law enforcement officers were called to a grocery store where two individuals were observed placing a case of butter in a shopping cart and subsequently transporting it to a waiting car outside. After inspecting nearby parking lots of other establishments, law enforcement officers observed the identical car parked outside another grocery store. They apprehended the two male occupants of the vehicle along with a third man who approached the officers upon exiting the store.

Estimated value of the loot

In total, law enforcement officers retrieved 144 sticks of butter and 17 containers of ghee, a clarified butter commonly used in South Asian cuisine. They approximated the value of the pilfered butter and illicitly obtained ghee to exceed $1,000.

The apprehended individuals, whose identities were not disclosed, were revealed to be aged 40, 29, and 25, according to the police. All three faced charges of theft under $5,000. Additionally, one of the men provided law enforcement with a false name, resulting in an additional obstruction charge.
