German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said Tuesday that 180 people are waiting at Kabul airport for the next German military evacuation, with 125 evacuated earlier in the day. Mass added that Taliban checkpoints in Kabul are making it more difficult to evacuate people who worked with coalition forces, with only foreign nationals permitted to go to the airport.

He said Germany was "in a dialogue with the United States" on the issue, with U.S. representatives speaking with the Taliban in Doha "to find a timely solution to this issue." Two more German planes are expected to land later on Tuesday to continue the evacuations.

Since the Taliban took Kabul on Sunday there has been a desperate rush to airlift foreign nationals and Afghans who worked with coalition forces in the 20 years since the 2001 invasion. However, chaos around the airport has slowed the efforts after Afghan civilians rushed onto the runways in an attempt to board a flight out of the country.
