For the first time, Hindu woman to contest general elections in Pakistan

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: For the first time, a Hindu woman is contesting in the parliamentary elections of Pakistan, scheduled for February 8 next year. Dr Saveera Parkash has been fielded by the Pakistan People’s Party. 

Saveera Parkash has officially submitted her nomination papers on December 23 for the general seat of PK-25 in Buner district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This makes Parkash the first Hindu woman to contest on a general seat in Pakistan.

Who is Saveera Parkash? 

Dr Saveera Parkash is a 2022 graduate of Abbottabad International Medical College and serves as the general secretary of the PPP women's wing in Buner. Saveera Parkash’s father, Oam Parkash, is a retired doctor who has dedicated more than 35 years of his life for PPP. 

Saveera’s dream of becoming an elected legislator stems from her firsthand experiences with poor management and helplessness in government hospitals during her medical career.

General elections are scheduled for February 8, 2024 to elect the members of the 16th National Assembly.
