89-Year-Old Man's house renovated by local community members

A community extended generous efforts for a regular pub-owner who was living in unpleasant conditions to renovate his home. The Pub in Glossop was alarmed by a local man Carl Marshall's 'appalling living conditions' and that is when the people from the community came together to volunteer to rebuild Marshall's home which he had left a year ago. The locals feared that his untidy household could affect the 89-year-old adversely and thus, they renovated his home just before his 90th birthday on November 12.

The 'Marshall Project'

The Pub posted about the entire story on Facebook where the people behind the project confessed that it has taken a lot longer than they had planned to do. However, they still believe that the result 'speaks for itself'. The pub owners were aware of Marshall's home for the last 11 months and while celebrating his birthday last year when they launched the 'Marshall Project'. The group took on social media to reach out to the community in order to achieve a 'simply outstanding' home on a 'tight budget. There were nearly more than a dozen companies who worked round the clock to make their vision come to life. Reportedly, Marshall was thrilled to know about The Oakwood Management's gesture and has now moved back into his apartment.

Netizens in awe

The entire story was posted on October 22, and the netizens are still in awe with the massive gesture by the community. People of the internet not only applauded the togetherness of the local neighbourhood while others found the old man's smile in the new home heartwarming. One of the Facebook users also said this gesture is also an epitome of how well a group can work if they all join hands to deal an issue, and if a similar approach is applied on all of them according to him, the citizens will have a 'better place to live in'. 

A Facebook user commented, “Now that is the word community personified! Heartwarming and lovely, to help out anyone is amazing but especially a gentleman in his older years. I'll bet it's made a massive difference to Carl and everyone involved should be so so proud of themselves”. 

Another internet user said, “ Wow!! A massive well done to you guys. What a fantastic job you’ve all done. Good to see the community come together to help Mr Marshall. His home looks gorgeous”.
