Grandpa knits dolls for kids with Vitiligo to bolster their confidence

João Stanganelli, a Brazilian grandfather, helps knits dolls for kids who suffer from Vitiligo and improve their self-esteem. He suffers from Vitiligo himself and has been knitting dolls for quite some time and has gained popularity in his native place. Meanwhile, Netizens have reacted to this act of kindness with many praising Joao for everything he has done so far.

Story of João Stanganelli

Vitiligo affects reportedly affects 3 million people in Brazil. It is a skin disease in which skin loses its pigment and causes it to turn white. Joao knits the doll for kids who suffer from this disease and helps the kids to regain self-esteem. 

As per a reported interview, he began knitting dolls as a challenge from his wife and it took him five days to learn the art of crochet before he made a doll for his granddaughter. He wants his granddaughter to remember him by something. But after photos of dolls were passed around his social circle, people wanted a doll of their own. 

Some people also asked for dolls in a wheelchair though others asked for dolls with hearing aids with which his popularity increased. Because of that popularity, Stanganelli started using Facebook and Instagram to display his work also began making dolls for others. He said that he has been amazed by the people who are asking for the dolls and felt gratitude for responses of both children and adults. Stanganelli further said that vitiligo has not caused him any difficulty as personal level when he was diagnosed with it at 38 years of age however he knows others who were not that lucky, children in particular.
