California: A Hindu temple- Swaminarayan Mandir Vasana Sanstha- was defaced with anti-India and pro-Khalistan graffiti in United States’ California, the Hindu American Foundation said on Saturday, december 23.
Pro-Khalistani slogans were scribbled on the walls of the Swaminarayan Mandir Vasana Sanstha situated in Newark, California. The images shared by the Hindu American Foundation showed hateful slogans scribbled on the walls of the temple against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Hindu American Foundation informed that Newark Police has assured a thorough investigation into the incident, as it demanded the incident to be investigated under the category of hate crime. “We are insisting that this should be investigated as a hate crime,” said the foundation.
“The mention of the Khalistan terrorist kingpin #Bhindranwale, who targeted Hindus for murder, is specifically meant to traumatize temple goers and create a fear of violence—meeting the CA definition of a hate crime,” said the Hindu American Foundation in a post on X.
Responding to the same the Indian Consulate General in San Francisco has demanded strict action in the matter, adding that the vandalism has hurt the Hindus living in the United States. The Consulate General said in a post on X, “We strongly condemn the defacing of SMVS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir at Newark, California with anti-India graffiti. This incident has hurt the sentiments of the Indian community. We have pressed for quick investigation and prompt action against the vandals by the US authorities in this matter."
