As Israel continues to hunt down Hamas' tunnel in Gaza, the IDF shared footage of the country's K9 unit uncovering a massive tunnel at the coastal enclave. On Saturday, the IDF shared a video which featured a dog from the Oketz canine unit hunting down the tunnel and revealing crucial areas inside the tunnel to the IDF. Earlier this month, the Israeli military said that it had discovered one of the largest Hamas tunnels which was located on the Erez crossing.
“A tunnel route—used as an underground base by the Hamas terrorist organization—was uncovered by our troops beneath the area of Issa within Gaza City,” the IDF wrote on X, formally known as Twitter. "This multi-level structure served as an underground post—for storage, hideouts, command and control, and movement of operatives between different areas—and has since been destroyed by troops. Watch the IDF’s K-9 Unit reveal the hundreds of meters long tunnel network," the Israeli military furthered. According to the video shared by the IDF, the hundreds of meters long tunnel included command rooms, storage and large resting areas with electricity, communication lines and water supply. According to The Times of Israel, the tunnel was found near the al-Quds Hospital.
The tunnel was found after a long fight
In a subsequent post, the IDF revealed that its Yiftah Brigade killed multiple Hamas gunmen before the troops including the K9 unit located several tunnel shafts leading to the major underground network in the area. The elite Yahalom combat engineering unit then arrived to investigate the tunnel beneath the Hamas compound, The Times of Israel reported. While uncovering the tunnel, the IDF found multiple levels within the tunnel, indicating how elaborate Hamas' schemes are. The Israeli military made it clear that the tunnel was destroyed by combat engineers and the 99th Division.
