Venkataraman is stepping down from his role, the Walmart-owned e-commerce giant announced on Friday, as the company paves the way for a public listing.

Venkataraman, a decade-long veteran of the company who joined in 2015, played a pivotal role in scaling Flipkart's finance and tax operations through a period of intense competition and regulatory shifts. The company stated that he will remain for a transition period to ensure continuity, with Ravi Iyer, the current CFO of Flipkart’s marketplace arm, set to oversee the broader finance organization in the interim.

'A Privilege to be Part of the Journey'

In a personal statement reflecting on his tenure, Venkataraman emphasized the growth he witnessed during his time at the firm. “It has been a privilege to be part of Flipkart's journey and to work alongside such a talented team,” Venkataraman said. Looking back at the platform's evolution into India’s dominant e-commerce player, he added, “I am proud of what we have built together and wish the company continued success in the years ahead.”

Flipkart Group CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy also acknowledged the contribution, noting that Venkataraman “played an important role in strengthening our finance organization over the years.”

Strategic Hires for IPO Push

The departure comes at a time when the company is shifting its domicile from Singapore back to India, in anticipation of an IPO expected in 2027. Flipkart also announced the return of Nishant Verman as Senior Vice President for Corporate Development and Partnerships.

Verman, who previously led corporate development at the firm before founding the cross-border platform Bzaar, is expected to focus on investor alignment and strategic partnerships as the company prepares for the scrutiny of public markets. The leadership changes follow a period of internal restructuring. This includes a recent performance-linked workforce reduction of approximately 3-4%, as Flipkart sharpens its focus on profitability and operational efficiency amidst a challenging global macroeconomic environment.
