Jio Targets 100% Subscriber Migration to 5G by 2030, Strengthens 6G Ambitions
Reliance Jio has announced plans to evaluate the development of a sovereign Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation to bridge connectivity gaps in India's remotest regions, alongside a strategic target to migrate its entire 524-million user base to 5G by 2030 while embedding AI across its consumer and enterprise networks.

Reliance Industries’ telecom arm Jio said on Friday it aims to migrate all its subscribers to its True5G network by 2030 and play a leading role in shaping global 6G standards, as the company laid out an expansive technology roadmap spanning broadband, artificial intelligence and satellite connectivity.
Speaking at the company’s annual shareholder meeting, Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani said Jio’s next phase of growth would be driven by five strategic priorities centred on connectivity, enterprise digitisation and AI adoption.
The customer base has crossed 524 million users, maintaining its position as India’s largest telecom operator, while its 5G subscriber base has exceeded 268 million users, with 77 million net additions during the financial year. JioAirFiber, its fixed wireless broadband offering, now connects 13 million homes across India.
Total data traffic on Jio’s network reached 241 exabytes during FY26, up 30.8% from a year earlier, highlighting rising demand for high-speed mobile internet and digital services.
Full 5G migration by 2030
Jio said its immediate focus remains expanding the reach and capabilities of its standalone 5G network. The company plans to migrate its entire subscriber base to 5G by 2030 while continuing investments in technologies such as network slicing and advanced beam-forming systems to improve connectivity in densely populated areas.
The move comes as telecom operators globally seek new revenue streams from premium 5G services and enterprise applications after years of heavy network investments
The company is embedding AI capabilities into customer services, network operations and digital platforms, while also promoting initiatives such as JioPC, a cloud-computing platform designed to provide small businesses with enterprise-grade technology through a set-top-box-based solution.
The company expects future revenue growth to come from premium 5G services, AI-enabled offerings and enterprise solutions, which could help lift average revenue per user (ARPU).
Satellite broadband
Reliance also unveiled plans to strengthen its presence in satellite communications, a segment that is attracting increasing attention from telecom and space companies worldwide.
The company is evaluating the development of a sovereign low-Earth-orbit satellite constellation for India while simultaneously partnering with global satellite operators through leased capacity arrangements.
With plans to build ground station infrastructure in India to support both partner constellations and any future domestic satellite network, the strategy is aimed at extending connectivity to remote villages, border regions and island communities where conventional telecom networks remain difficult to deploy.
Its technology stack developed for 5G, fixed wireless access and AI services is now ready for deployment with international partners in selected markets.
The company sees technology exports becoming an increasingly important pillar of growth as it seeks to monetise innovations originally built to serve India’s large-scale digital ecosystem.
“Our target is to migrate all subscribers to 5G by 2030 while advancing India’s leadership position in 6G standards,” the company said.
